Julia Blasingame, the wife of Gustav Munzesheimer, was
the daughter of a very prominent Mineola family who owned a local mercantile
store. Julia and Gustav were married in January 1899, by the Episcopal bishop of
Dallas, who, upon his arrival on the Cannonball train, was literally treated to
a "red carpet" treatment. Pauline Munzesheimer was the only child born of this
marriage (in November 1899) and spent her later years in Dallas until her death
in 1987. Descendants of Pauline currently reside in Dallas. There are
photographs of Julia and Gustav in the dining room which were provided by their
Granddaughter Polly (Pauline) during a visit to Mineola.
The armoire, although not original to the house, has a
very questionable history. A lead bullet is embedded on the inside of the
left-hand door. We have no idea of the story behind its location, but are
certain you can think of something. The walnut writing table was acquired
from the Benham estate (a local Mineola businessman and community leader). The
fireplace mantle is original to the house and is almost identical to the mantle
in the Perry room. The bath was "borrowed" from a corner of this room and a
corner of the Perry room during the 1987 restoration and contains a 4 1/2 foot
tub. (Several inches of hot water provides a relaxing way to end the day.)
